Be More Informed

Be sure your contractor has insurance and all the proper types; general liability, umbrella liability, and workers compensation.

Check with the Better Business Bureau for company’s ratings and complaints against company at www.bbb.org or 303-758-2100. How many years has the company not had a complaint?

Make sure to get several bids on a project, and to compare them not just on price but on quality and the systems being offered.

See if your contractor pays for material up front or uses credit to buy materials. Using credit can cost more and/or allow the distributer to file a lien against the property the materials are being used at.

Check on the turnover rate at a company. Their previous work may have been good, but are you getting the same craftsmanship?

Does your contractor have a staffed office, able to meet your needs and take care of any issues that may arise?

Check to see how long your contractor has been in business, and how established in the area they are.

It is safer to go with locally owned and operated companies. The most popular scams are from out of state contractors.

All materials must come from the manufacturer to receive their warranty.

Make sure your contractor will warranty their work. With a locally established it is more likely they will be around to complete the warranty work later on.

Make sure your contractor respects safety, scaffolding put together correctly, protective gear, and proper equipment are a few areas of safety concern.
